It’s that time again to introduce another awesome member of our group, Debra Wilson. She has been costuming for years and her love for it shows. Not only does she dress up but her whole family joins her. It’s always a breath of fresh air to have them all come to events. Check out more below to see how she started.
How did you get into cosplay?
I have always loved wearing costumes. I would make and wear a costume for every holiday, and other times I would wear dramatic makeup.
How many characters are you currently cosplaying and what are they?
I have 6 complete costumes and many that I am working on. The ones that are finished are my Harley Quinn, Tank Girl/ Harley Quinn mash-up, Nyssa (from Arrow), Dawn, Female Dwarf, and Zombie.
What’s your favorite cosplay you’ve done so far and why?
That is such a difficult question to answer. I love all of my costumes, but I get to have the most fun in my Harley Quinn costume.
What’s your favorite way to craft?
I use fabric for most of my stuff. I either sew by hand or my husband sews them with the sewing machine. I have just started working with foam also. I want to learn other new ways to craft as well.
What’s your favorite crafting item to work with and why?
My hot glue gun. I use it for almost everything!
What are your cosplay goals (e.g. professional, hobbyist, charity, gateway to another career, etc)?
Cosplay is a creative outlet for me. I would love to do more charity events if I get the opportunity. I also want to do more photo shoots.
What’s your dream cosplay and why?
I have many dream costumes, but the one that I want to do the most is Atomic Wonder Woman. To me Wonder Woman always seems so strong and confident. I love the concept of a post apocalyptic version of her.
What advice would you give someone who wants to get into cosplay?
Wear whatever costume that makes you happy. Don’t get intimidated by other peoples skills, because we all were beginners once.
What other interests do you have outside of cosplay?
I love decorating cakes for my family.
If you could have dinner with one fictional character, who would it be and why?
Only one?! Well I would have to say Dawn, because she is so amazing!
