It’s Tuesday again and it’s time to share another talented member of KC Cosplay & Photography. Megan Follett is a dual threat in both photography and cosplay. After seeing how much fun our members were having, she just had to join in! She also participated in our Planet Comicon photography contest and received third place. Check out what she has to share below on getting into photography.
What got you into photography and how long have you been doing it?
I started doing photography in high school but I didn’t make my business out of it until 2011. I loved capturing people when they were themselves. You can tell the difference between a picture that says “cheese” and a picture of them in their natural awesomeness. I love capturing pictures of people for who they are. So I started my business to show them that they are beautiful and wonderful for who they are.
What is your favorite thing to photograph?
I love kids! They are filled with so much joy and love you can’t help but smile and laugh with them! Then weddings come in second. The love within a wedding is something that you can’t duplicate. It is pure, and I love capturing those moments.
Why did you decide to photograph cosplayers?
I love trying new things and I LOVE DC (Batman is my all time favorite). So I decided to step beyond my weddings and go for something that also has a lot of love into it.
What type of camera do you prefer to use?
I always use a Canon. I have tried different types but I fall back to my original one. Yes, I could buy the super camera and have all the amazing things. But it’s not the camera that captures everything. You have to have an eye for that and you have to have the creativity as well. Anyone can take a picture, it’s up to you to show its true colors.
What is your editing program of choice?
I use Photoshop. I have the Creative Cloud which I pay monthly for so I’m always up to date with the new versions.
What is the best advice you’d give someone who wants to get into photography?
Just do it. If you love it, do it. Everyone has a different view on things. I like to capture beauty in things, other people like to photoshop the living hell out of things. Both will turn out amazing if you know what you’re doing. Find what you love, try new things. You never know what your photography calling will be.
Have you considered cosplaying?
I have and I did! I did my first cosplay at Planet Comicon! It was a blast and I’m already making more! It’s very addicting. It was a little different being in front of the camera instead of behind it.
What are your other interests?
Teaching. As some of you know, my full time job is a Montesorri teacher. I love it and I love all my kids. I have watched most of them grow up from the infant room and now they are graduating kindergarten.
If you could have dinner with one fictional character, who would it be and why?
Hmmm. That’s tough. I would say the Doctor because I will be his next companion (seriously who doesn’t want to travel through time and space), but I guess I would love to be with Jack and Sally from The Nightmare Before Christmas. They have a special place in my heart and how can you not talk with someone who shows that true love conquers all? And I would like to see pictures of their kids lol.
