Tuesday’s here and we have ourselves another awesome KCCP member of the week. We are proud to introduce you to the lovely Ginny Bowman. This talented woman has been busy with writing, acting, directing and making costumes for years. And now is your chance to get to know her better.
How did you get into cosplay?
A boyfriend of mine announced that he would be dressing up as Batman for that year’s Planet Comicon. Up until that point I didn’t even know that was something people did! At least, not in Kansas City. By the time we broke up, I was so in love with cosplay I had no intention of quitting.
How many characters are you currently cosplaying and what are they?
Two-ish. Catwoman is one, but every time I’ve dressed up as her it was a different variation so does that count as just one? Witchblade is another. I also dressed up as a character from one of our short films but I don’t think she quite counts as cosplay as I am actually her actress.
What’s your favorite cosplay you’ve done so far and why?
A totally inaccurate version of the Pfeiffer Catwoman because she was my first and it was how I met my partner.
What’s your favorite way to craft?
With a cup of tea and a BBC show playing in the background.
What’s your favorite crafting item to work with and why?
Fabric, because I’ve been sewing since I could reach the controls on my Mom’s machine.
What are your cosplay goals (e.g. professional, hobbyist, charity, gateway to another career, etc)?
I see it as a hobby that’s part of my career in that it opens the door to meeting incredibly talented people who just might want to act for our production company.
What’s your dream cosplay and why?
Aeon Flux, because she’s that perfect combination of sex and power.
What advice would you give someone who wants to get into cosplay?
Study your character, figure out how you resemble them and play on that. No one will notice if your costume isn’t screen accurate if you play the character well.
What other interests do you have outside of cosplay?
I write, act, produce, direct, and edit our films at 1134 Productions. I also homeschool a kiddo with Asperger’s and am quite talented at avoiding housework.
If you could have dinner with one fictional character, who would it be and why?
James Bond because…reasons.
